Last week saw adult skaters flocking to Bracknell from all over the country to compete in the ever popular Bracknell Adult Open. The competition is always one of the favourite events on the adult skating calendar and last week was no exception. This year, the competition was extended to cover two full days in order to accommodate the rise in the number of adults wishing to compete.
Nearly 100 skaters took part with ages ranging from 21 to 65 and there was plenty of friendly rivalry between friends. The singles and artistic classes were held on Thursday and Friday saw classes for solo and couples dance with both pattern dance and free dance classes being equally popular amongst the ice dancers. All the classes were particularly popular with those skaters who are heading off to compete at the ISU adult event in Oberstdorf in May.
The event was a huge success and just goes to show the high demand for adult competitions, particularly with there being so few qualifiers for the British Adult Championships. The competition ran smoothly and to time and as always, it was very much appreciated by the adult skating community. Bracknell Ice Skating Club hopes to be able to run the open again next year as a two day event.
Bracknell Ice Skating Club would also like to thank all judges, officials and volunteers for their time and help which make this event a success.
