GB Short Track Head to Dresden for their First International Competition of the Season

Today, six athletes from the GB Short Track Speed Skating squad will be travelling to Germany for the first international competition of the season. The DESG Short Track Invitation Cup will be held in Dresden, Germany on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th September and will see 54 international skaters from 6 nations compete.

Representing Great Britain will be Jack Burrows, Josh Cheetham, Murray Cochrane, Aydin Djemal, Jonathan Moody and Jennifer Pickering. After a successful season last year and months of hard training, the skaters will be looking for strong performances here to set them up for the season ahead.

Each athlete will skate all three 1500M, 777M and 500M distances over the 2 days as well as taking part in the relay.

Ahead of the competition we spoke to GB Short Track Coach, Nicky Gooch who said;

‘We’ve had months of hard training ahead this season; looking at ways to improve on last year’s performances and taking influence from other disciplines including long track speed skating.

‘I am confident that we have a great team of athletes competing in the Dresden Invitation Cup. We are looking forward to getting the skaters out on the ice and getting the season underway.’

Results from the competition will be available after the event on the news section of the NISA website. Live results will be available on the Short Track Online website.

The Short Track Speed Skating season will take GB Short Track to a variety of competitions and qualifiers across the globe and will culminate in the World Championships, which will be held in Seoul, Korea in March 2016.
