Great Britain’s elite figure skaters compete in international Grand Prix

This week, elite couples Nicholas Buckland & Penny Coomes, and Christopher Boyadji & Amani Fancy, prepare to compete in ISU Grand Prix competition, the NHK Trophy in Nagano, Japan.

The competition will see senior skaters from around the world perform in categories Men, Ladies, Pairs and Ice Dance from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th November. It will take place on the site of the ’98 Winter Olympics and provides the couples with another opportunity to compete against the current World and European medallists.

Having missed out on a number of competitions last season, and returning with a promising start to this year, Olympians Buckland and Coomes will be looking to make a mark on the Ice Dance category here in Japan.

NISA High Performance Manager, Robin Cousins said;

“This opportunity comes at a perfect time for Britain’s top ice dancers as they continue to re-establish themselves on the World ice stage having missed the main events of the 2014/15 season.”

For newer couple, Boyadji and Fancy, this is their first time competing in an ISU Grand Prix final. They have been hard at work this season perfecting their routines and receiving a bronze medal at last week’s Tallinn Trophy was proof that their hard work is paying off.

Robin said;

“We were thrilled this week to hear that Christopher and Amani had been invited to the NHK Trophy. The Tallinn Trophy was a great result for the pair but they continue to work hard, perfecting their routines for future competitions. This is a great chance for them to take it to the next level.”

We wish our elite couple the best of luck in competition.
