Skaters up and down the country will take to the ice this week for IJS Sheffield from 24th to 28th August at iceSheffield arena. The competition will see talent from basic novice levels through to seniors, providing another opportunity for skaters to qualify for the National Championships in December.
Among those participating will be NISA elite athletes Penny Coomes & Nicholas Buckland and Amani Fancy & Christopher Boyadji who will compete in the Senior Pairs category.
Ahead of the competition, we spoke to High Performance Manager and coach to the elite athletes, Robin Cousins, who said:
“IJS Sheffield is the first event of the season for the elite skaters and as such it is the first viewing for their newly choreographed material. It will be a chance to get feedback from the senior International officials at NISA; from which we can fine tune and address technical details ahead of the International season which kicks off at the end of September.”
The event is taking place in association with NISA and Skate UK and will have over 200 skaters taking part across the five days.
Following IJS Sheffield, both skating pairs will attend a two day Performance Camp at Sheffield Hallam on 29th and 30th August alongside other NISA squad members. It will be the only time in the year when both national and elite squads are together under one roof. Over the course of the two days, skaters will receive one-to-one judges feedback and attend educational lectures including physio and injury prevention as well as nutritional advice.
