NISA selects junior figure skating stars to compete in World Championships

The ISU Junior World Figure Skating Championships, which takes place in Estonia from 2nd to 8th March 2015, will feature the best young figure skating talent from across the world. The National Ice Skating Association (NISA) has selected the figure skaters that will represent Great Britain on the world stage.

In the Ladies singles programme, Danielle Harrison - who is the current British National Junior Champion – has been selected to compete in the Ladies Event. Anna Litvinenko and Kristen Spours will act as the First and Second Reserves should Danielle be unable to compete.

Harrison will also be competing in the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival which takes place in Austria from 25th to 30th January 2015.

In the Men’s singles category, two-time British National Champion, Graham Newberry will be competing in the men’s programmes. Newberry, who trains at Lee Valley is no stranger to the competition and last year he placed 19th overall in the 2014 Junior World Figure Skating Championships in Bulgaria. The two reserves are Josh Brown and Hugh Brabyn-Jones.

Two couples have been selected to represent Great Britain in the Ice Dance category, including British National Junior Ice Dance Champions Katia Fedyushchenko and Lucas Kitteridge, who claimed a Silver medal at the ISU International Open D’Andorra in Andorra. Robynne Tweedale and Edward Carstairs have also been selected to represent Great Britain.  The reserve Ice Dance couple is Lilah Fear and Jacob Payne.

Nick Sellwood, Chief Executive at the National Ice Skating Association (NISA), said: “The junior skaters who have been selected for the Junior Worlds have all showed significant promise and they have had some success, both nationally and internationally.

“The competition will expose them to competing on a world stage and will give them a fantastic opportunity to compete against the best junior skaters from across the globe. I wish them the best of luck in their programmes.”
