We caught up with Team Zariba head coach Sara Paterson following the team’s return from the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships in Colorado.
The British Champions put in a strong performance and had a fantastic experience in the USA explained Sara, who said: “The competition was amazing! From the moment we were picked up from the airport right to the very end.
“The volunteers, the audience, the arena and the hotel were all first class. It was so good to train at an Olympic training site and compete in that huge arena.”
Sara added: “It's always an honour to be picked to represent your country. We worked very hard this season to overcome certain obstacles but we were successful and got our ultimate goal which was to go to Colorado.”
Team Zariba have had a fantastic season, and Sara points to the success at this year’s British Synchronized Skating as a highlight for Zariba, she said: “A highlight is of course winning the British because that's a massive part of Worlds qualification but also the ISU Trophy D'Ecosse as it is in our home country.
“This year we had a Scottish themed short so it was fun to perform that in Scotland. However, the Americans seemed to love it even more. Our short was very well received in Colorado with lots of people complimenting it.”
The team had an excellent Short Program in the USA and Sara is extremely proud of the team who had to overcome a few obstacles at the competition. Sara said: “The World’s is a huge event and is emotionally draining! We put our heart and soul into every practice and off ice but after 5 days you get tired.
“We had altitude to deal with this time too which was just added stress as we train at sea level normally! Doesn't get much more different than that!
“However, we went out with positive minds and put out a really strong short which left us really determined for the Free. We missed a couple of levels on the Free which was annoying but we are so happy with the event as a whole.
“The audience in Colorado was unbelievable as was the arena and the organisation. It was the best competition to be a part of!”
Team Zariba will now be taking a well earned break while they prepare their new Short and Free Programs are finalised. Sara said: “We are excited for the new season already and can't wait to show you what we will be bringing!
“See you all next season, And thank you for all the support and well wishes this week.”
