UK figure skaters to compete for national title at British Figure Skating Championships

Sheffield’s Ice Centre, iceSheffield will host the 2014 British Figure Skating Championships next week (Wednesday 26th to Sunday 30th November). The competition, which is organised by the National Ice Skating Association (NISA) is one of the most exciting in the annual figure skating calendar and it will see the UK’s top elite skaters battle it out to be crowned British Champion.

Figure skating is one of the most popular winter sports in the world. The long standing competitive sport requires skaters to master demanding technical jumps, and spins, whilst performing with beauty and grace. Top skaters have amazing levels of fitness, agility, and artistic talent and they dedicate themselves to becoming the best in the world.

The British Figure Skating Championships will include competitors from all corners of the UK. The skaters will compete in men’s and ladies singles, pairs and ice dancing. The national event is open to the public to watch.

Nick Sellwood, Chief Executive of the National Ice Skating Association (NISA) commented: “The British Championships provide a prime opportunity for the public to see some of the UK’s best skaters in action first hand as we enter into the next four year cycle which will culminate in the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics.

“Figure skating is extremely popular in the UK, both from a participation perspective and for spectators and this event never fails to disappoint”.
