We speak to Kristen Spours ahead of the British Figure Skating Championships

We catch up with Kristen Spours (pictured) ahead of the British Figure Skating Championships which skate into iceSheffield next week.

How excited are you for the British Figure Skating Championships?

This season I have had a number of good competitions, including 2 International medal finishes. So I am very excited for the British as I hope to continue my successes in the Championship.

What do the British Figure Skating Championships mean to you?

The Championships, to me, are an opportunity to see the best of British skating and support other members of Team GB that we don't get to compete with regularly. Also they are a gateway to the major international events like European and world championship.

Can you give us an insight in to your routines?

For my Short I will be skating to Joya - The Dive and Mack and Mabel - The Overture for my Long. Both pieces of music allow me to show a fun, more playful side to my skating. I hope this will come through in my expression and choreography, which was designed by Mark Naylor.

What are you looking forward to most about the British Figure Skating Championships?

I am looking forward to showcasing both my short and long programs and hope that everyone will enjoy watching them.  I’m also looking forward to the opportunity to showcase my skating in Great Britain in front of other great skaters.

What’s been the highlight of your year so far?

The highlight of my year so far has been breaking into the top 100 of the ISU World Standings and top 35 for this season. This was achieved through 2 podium finishes at internationals in Bulgaria and Italy.

Who is your skating idol?

My skating Idol, although only a recent one, is Nathan Chen because at such a young age, he is pushing the boundaries of jumping ability with his incredibly difficult programs. This is so important in our sport for progression to continue and very inspiring to see.

What would you say to the public about the British Figure Skating Championships?

Come to Sheffield to watch the very best of British skating and show your support for aspiring and experienced British athletes.
