We’re excited to be actively recruiting new Singles judges to start their education and development in October 2024.
Have you ever thought about being a figure skating judge?
Providing your expertise and knowledge on judging panels for test days and competitions, you’d be a key part of supporting the continued evolution and growth of ice skating in the UK.
We’re kicking off a new education programme for Singles judges this October and we’re recruiting now for new candidates!
You might be an ex-competitor looking to stay involved in the sport you love, or a parent of a skater who’s seen the ins and outs of more competitions than you can count – whoever you are, judging might be the next step in your ice skating journey.
Who Can Become a Judge?
We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to make ice skating opportunities available to more people, making big changes to remove barriers to participation – and this has included changes to our pathways for people to become ice skating officials.
Where previously you needed to be able to skate to a specific standard to be eligible to become a figure skating judge, our criteria now emphasise skating knowledge over practical skating skills – because you don’t need to be able to perform an element to judge its grade of execution!
Who can become a judge now? Any British Ice Skating member over 18 with a high level of understanding of the discipline they want to judge, who meets ISU eligibility criteria.*
How Do I Apply?
To apply to be a new Singles judge, you just need to complete our online application form (if you’re interested in other Official roles you can highlight these at the same time!)
What Happens Next?
Your application form will be reviewed to assess your suitability for joining our October education programme for new Singles judges.
Approved candidates will be invited to an online information session which will provide an introduction to the judging and the IJS system, key components and relevant rules and policies. Candidates will have a chance to ask questions and find out more about what comes next.
Qualifying as a judge includes exams and mentoring procedures alongside ongoing education and development provided by British Ice Skating: Find out more.
So if you love figure skating and want to be a part of the evolution of our sport, why not consider becoming a judge? Applications for Singles Judges, to begin their education in October 2024, are actively being sought now!
