For the first time in 30 years Team GB will have skaters competing in Figure, Long Track and Short Track Speed Skating at a Winter Olympic Games. A total of 8 skaters will compete in Beijing, with an even split of male and female athletes. From Ice Dance to 500m long track speed skating there are 12 disciplines that will feature a British skater.
Figure Skating
Lilah Fear/Lewis Gibson - Ice Dance
Natasha McKay - Women's Singles
Announced as some of the very first members of Team GB figure skaters Lewis Gibson, Lilah Fear and Natasha Mckay are all heading to their first ever Winter Olympics Games. Ice Dance takes place on 12th and 14th, with the women's following on 15th and 17th.
Short Track Speed Skating
Kathryn Thomson - 500m/1000m/1500m
Farrell Treacy - 1000m/1500m
Niall Treacy - 1000m
A trio of Team GB short track speed skaters will race in Beijing. Kathryn Thomson, who will skate in three distances, and Farrell Treacy are both attending their second Games. It's on Olympic debut for Farrell's younger brother Niall who will feature in the men's 1000m.
Long Track Speed Skating
Cornelius Kersten - 500m/1000m/1500m
Ellia Smeding - 1000m/1500m
Cornelius Kersten and Ellia Smeding are hoping to inspire a new generation of long track speed skaters as they compete in Beijing. Cornelius ends the 30 year wait for a male long track speed skater to represent Team GB, Ellia becomes the first female selected in 42 years. Between them the coffee connoisseurs will skate in five distances.
