British Ice Skating is proud to have awarded the Robert Mitchell Shield for the first time at the British Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2024.
The new Masters trophy has been named after Robert Mitchell in honour of his lifetime of dedication to the sport of speed skating and its community. The Mitchell family have played a vital role in the sport from grassroots in Peterborough and Mohawks right up to the British Championships.
Robert was known for his kind and caring nature off the ice, but as soon as he stepped on the ice he was ruthless and delivered competitive and exciting performances!
We would like to take the opportunity to thank Robert and his family for everything they have given to speed skating and its community.
And the winner is...
The first-time winner of the Robert Mitchell Cup, the new British Short Track Championships Masters Trophy, is Peter Carr.
His strong performances saw him win out over second-placed Steve Humber, with Keith Wright rounding out the podium in third.
Congratulations to them and to all the other Masters competitors for some brilliant racing!
The Robert Mitchell Shield is the fourth new trophy to be introduced at the 2024 British Short Track Championships. Three others have also been awarded for the first time at this event, recognising the achievements of some of the trail-blazing women of British short track:
