British Ice Skating teamed up with Grimsby Ice Rink to deliver the first ever Skate UK Camps last week, with participants receiving a half-day intensive learning experience from top coaches including Keith Hudson, who heads up the BIS Skate UK programme.
The first camp was open to both complete beginners and learners currently working their way through the Skate UK learn to skate programme (or equivalent), while the second provided a more advanced experience for skaters currently on the Skate UK Star programme. Both camps included sessions on and off the ice to help skaters grow in confidence, practice their skills and learn something new.
We would like to say a big thank you to Jo Routh and Grimsby Ice Rink for partnering with us to facilitate the camps, and to coaches Karen Goodwin, Bryony Corrigan and Kathryn Hudson for some wonderful on- and off-ice coaching!
Skaters from Grimsby, Hull, Doncaster, Leeds, Sheffield and even as far as Chelmsford took part in the camp, and feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. One parent shared:
“I had one child in the morning and one in the afternoon and both absolutely loved it! They both got so much out of it and came away feeling positive and confident…I’m genuinely grateful for the attention, coaching and positive reinforcement they received. They were buzzing to get the bag, pen and certificate too. Nice touch!”
It was wonderful to see the level of enthusiasm and hard work all the skaters put in, and we can’t wait to offer more events like this in the future!
Keep an eye on the Skate UK App for future opportunities:
We’d love to hear from any rinks interested in hosting future events; please contact our Skate UK Lead, Keith Hudson, on keith.hudson@icesakting.org.uk
